The Gemma range is made from seersucker cotton that was originally used for summer outfits, Bermuda shorts in particular. It is a very lightweight honeycomb fabric that is crease-resistant. The weft threads are stretched across the loom in a different way to the warp threads, creating alternating smooth and crêpe-effect stripes. This production technique allows heat to dissipate and air to circulate. The word "seersucker" comes from India, originating from the word "shir-o-shakar". This term means "Milk and Sugar" in Persian, referring to the two textures: the soft and smooth fabric (milk) and the crinkled, "crisp" fabric (sugar).
